How To Use Access
Control to Restrict Who Can Use Files in Windows Xp
Profession Thursday, October 23 @

The NTFS file system available in Windows?XP offers
several security advantages not available in previous
versions of Windows without NTFS. One such advantage is
access control. You can restrict who has access to data
on your computer, or on the network, using access
control lists in Windows XP on a drive formatted to use
NTFS. The access control features allow you to restrict
access to a specific user, a computer, or a group of
users.

The Digital
Library: Setting out the Challenges Wednesday, October 15 @ 17:49:27 EDT by afridi (3
reads) |
Creating
"effective" digital libraries poses serious challenges
for existing and future technologies. The integration of
digital media into traditional collections will not be
straightforward, like previous new media (e.g., video
audio tapes), because of the unique nature of digital
information it is less fixed, easily copied, and
remotely accessible by multiple users simultaneously.
Traditional library processes such as collection
development and reference, though forming a potential
basis for "digital library" work, will have to be
revised and enhanced to accommodate these differences.
Taking what we know about libraries as a starting point,
we can begin to examine in more detail what the specific
challenges might be

I
ask myself this question about once every month. My
website looks fine to me, but what are other people
seeing? And what are the Search Engines
seeing? Here's a checklist of 10 ways to
keep your website at peak performance:
1.? Browser
Compatibility
The
first thing is to look at your website through other
people's browsers. I do this regularly and I've
sometimes been shocked at what I
saw!

Global Positioning
System Wednesday, October 15 @

GPS is funded by and
controlled by the U. S. Department of Defense (DOD).
While there are many thousands of civil users of GPS
world-wide, the system was designed for and is operated
by the U. S. military. GPS provides specially coded
satellite signals that can be processed in a GPS
receiver, enabling the receiver to compute position,
velocity and time.? Four GPS satellite signals are used
to compute positions in three dimensions and the time
offset in the receiver clock.

Relational
databases: The inspiration behind the
theory Monday, October 13 @
03:43:29 EDT by afridi (19
reads) |
Trying to use a relational
database management system (RDBMS) without applying
relational database theory to your design is like trying
to drive a standard transmission without using the
clutch: You're not going to get very far. In fact, your
application may come to a grinding halt. If you're
lucky, you'll end up with just an inefficient database.
But it could be much worse. You could create a database
that erroneously reports data or even destroys data. In
this series of articles, you'll learn how to apply
relational rules and, in the process, develop an
efficient design that protects the validity of your
data. Let's start the series off with a look at the
origins of the relational data model.
